Salary: £22,727/annum

Are you passionate about supporting women and children affected by domestic violence? Are you a caring and compassionate individual able to build and maintain strong relationships? If so, BRC are looking for a Refuge Support Assistant to join an amazing charity in Barry.

This fantastic charity is committed putting an end to domestic violence. The team works tirelessly to offer front line crisis intervention to clients and assist them in rediscovering their independence.

This role will be based within a refuge environment and will focus on housing management and housekeeping duties. The role will also involve offering practical and emotional support to clients alongside the support that they will be receiving from specialist domestic abuse practitioners. There are a number of opportunities for career progression within this organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Housekeeping and maintenance of rooms, as well as preparing rooms for new arrivals.
  • Ensuring that the refuge is stocked with necessary resources.
  • Laundering bed linen, towels, and duvets.
  • Carrying out health and safety checks and managing maintenance issues.
  • Carrying out fire alarm tests weekly.
  • Monitor, record, and report any health and safety concerns.
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the accommodation.
  • Supporting residents to move in and out of accommodation.
  • Organising activities for residents and introducing them to the local area.
  • Always Maintaining confidentiality of women and children.
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity and encourage community response to domestic violence.
  • Promote the values and qualities of this charity organisation.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training.
  • Work cooperatively as part of a wider team.

Person specification:

  • The correct candidate of this position will be a compassionate and caring individual.
  • It is important that you have experience of working with vulnerable individuals, and preferable that you have experience working within a refuge setting.
  • It is vital that you are able to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • You must demonstrate an ability to work well within a team environment.
  • The correct candidate will be able to remain calm in an emergency or crisis.
  • They will also have sound knowledge of health and safety procedures.
  • They will be able to maintain and observe professional boundaries at all times.
  • A valid UK driving license is essential.
