JOB TITLE: Housing Team Receptionist

LOCATION: Wandsworth, SW18 1HR (Fully office based)

PAY RATE: £17.63 paye / £23.68 umbrella (per hour)

START DATE: ASAP

DURATION/Hours: 3-month initial contract/ 36 hours a week (Mon-Fri, 9-5)

Role purpose:

  • To provide a professional and excellent customer centred reception service at Putney Bridge Road, giving information on services to tenants, leaseholders, housing applicants, and people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and to deal with enquiries in a timely manner.
  • To undertake an initial assessment of customer demands, providing advice and information, referring where necessary to the relevant housing service, and offering a range of options to access services.
  • To understand and keep up to date with Council policies, relevant legislation, and procedures, to ensure advice given to customers is accurate up to date and appropriate.
  • To provide an efficient and effective appointment and queuing system for callers with pre-booked appointments and where appropriate, make appointments of behalf of services within the department.
  • To handle debit card and cheque payments as required for housing services such as door entry key and permits. Ensure banking and financial guidelines are adhered to.
  • To update and extract information from IT systems as required and complete relevant documentation following agreed policies and procedures.
  • To validate documents in accordance with the relevant guidelines
  • Be proactive in identifying risks from and to customers and to record details of any incidents at Customer Services to the Manager/Deputy Manager and report potentially violent customers in line with Council procedures.
  • Maintain the customer services reception area both public and office side by ensuring all documentation and information is up to date and displayed in an orderly manner and replenished as necessary. Ensure all interviewing cubicles and reception areas are checked daily and report any IT and equipment issues and assist in resolving these in a timely manner to maintain the effective operation of the Housing Reception.
  • To be responsible for testing the security and evacuation systems in place within the Customer Services Unit within an agreed timetable and for implementing health and safety procedures
  • post holder should expect to carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the level of the post.
  • Staff required to work within the reception operating hours, including opening, and closing public access within time. Will be required to work beyond the operating hours as and when necessary.

  • Housing knowledge
  • Local authority experience
  • Front line customer service experience
