Social Worker or principle Social Worker- Various Teams to join. 

The Social Worker and Principal Social Worker will possess advanced social work knowledge, skills and leadership related to improving outcomes for Adults or children.

The suitable candidate will consistently demonstrate a high level of competence and confidence in the full range of social work tasks.

Expected to model core social work values, best practice and a strong commitment to continuous improvement. To establish Signs of Safety as the model of Social Work practice

Will provide line management to a range of workers within the service.

Will provide mentoring and coaching to other members of the team and provide accredited practice teaching to student social workers including complex and challenging cases.  This may include co-working.

Expected to achieve high practice standards and meet performance targets within their workload and those of staff they supervise.  To contribute to the learning culture of the team by sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues.

To deputise for their Manager and represent the team in working groups set up to raise the quality of practice and improve the effectiveness of the service. 

Assist their Manager in providing support and supervision to specific other members of the team and are accountable for their work.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Take responsibility for cases including those which are complex and demanding, to assist people to resolve major difficulties in their lives and enhance their independence and coping skills and provide a consultation/ management role on practice issues for staff

2.  To deputise for their Manager and represent the team in a   variety of settings/meetings.

3.  Meet the requirements of Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 by:-

  • Assisting people to access and use information and advice with ease.
  • Working with partners to ensure that we prevent needs and difficulties from escalating and act early
  • Supporting people to make decisions about what they need and how services are provided
  • Ensuring assessments are proportionate to need and plan delivery of services to meet that need.  Working together to be creative about meeting needs, changing services to be more responsive.

4. Assessment of need

  • Seeking to maximise the financial and material resources available to service users from all possible sources.
  • Recording unmet need.
  • Collating the findings of the assessment and completing assessment documentation in accordance with statutory guidance, legislation and departmental procedures and timescales.
  • Preparing and overseeing court and other specialist reports in the required format and to the appropriate standard.
  • Ensuring the case file recording is completed in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
  • Chairing case meetings, including reviews and statutory discussion/meetings and to ensure care plans are in the best interests and safety of the child.

5. Planning and managing care

  •   Agreeing resources with service providers to meet needs.
  •   Recording and ensuring the dissemination of care plans in accordance with statutory requirements, legislation and departmental procedures.
  •   Completing commissioning/ contracting documentation in accordance with departmental policy and timescales.
  •   Convening, chairing and / or attending interagency meetings/ liaison e.g. case conferences, planning meetings.
  •   Participating in statutory processes to promote and protect the well-being of vulnerable children and / or adults.
  •   As well as managing care on an individual casework and caseload basis, having an important role to play both directly and indirectly in shaping services.

6. Monitoring and reviewing provision

  • Evaluating and recommending requests for expenditure within the limits of cash limited budgets.
  • Liaising with other professionals and contacts to ensure on going appropriateness of the care plan.
  • Overseeing casework to ensure that assessments are up-to-date and relevant.
  • Arranging and coordinating review of the Care Plan.
  • Negotiating and agreeing changes to plan with providers and other agencies involved.
  • Ensuring that service users are aware of complaints procedures and advocacy services.
  • Contributing to the professional development of others by supervising others including those who are supporting students on placement.

7. Managing workload

  • Ensuring the timely administration of all aspects of caseload to ensure that the recorded caseload fairly reflects work done.
  • Preparing and engaging in professional supervision with Line Manager.
  • Identifying and addressing areas for professional development and training.
  • Completing appropriate documentation e.g. agenda / minutes of supervision.
  • Agreeing action plans to take the service and locality forward
  • Complying with Welsh language requirements of the position (no competency level). 
  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of health and safety principles and practice as laid down in Council's Health & Safety policies and arrangements.
  • To be responsible for implementation of equal opportunities principles and practice as laid down in the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
