Job Title: Qualified Social Worker - Kinship Assessment Team

Location: Northumberland

Are you a dedicated and experienced Social Worker with a passion for supporting families and ensuring the well-being of children? We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our Kinship Assessment Team, where you will play a vital role in assessing and facilitating kinship care arrangements for children in need.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Kinship Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments of kinship carers to determine their suitability and capacity to provide a safe and stable environment for children.

  2. Family Engagement: Build positive and collaborative relationships with extended family members, ensuring open communication and involvement in the assessment process.

  3. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and protective factors within the family network, taking into consideration the child's safety and well-being.

  4. Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, including legal professionals, child protection officers, and other agencies, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to kinship care assessments.

  5. Court Reports: Prepare comprehensive and clear court reports detailing assessment findings, recommendations, and the best interests of the child.

  6. Support Planning: Develop and implement support plans for kinship carers, providing guidance on accessing relevant services and resources to meet the needs of the child and the care giving arrangement.

  7. Training and Education: Provide information and education to kinship carers about relevant policies, procedures, and parenting strategies to enhance their care giving skills.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Degree in Social Work: A recognised qualification in social work and registration with the relevant professional body.

  2. DBS on update service
  3. Experience: Proven experience in child protection and family assessments, with a focus on kinship care.

  4. Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to child protection and kinship care.

  5. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with families, colleagues, and external agencies.

  6. Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, and the ability to work sensitively with families from various cultural backgrounds.
