Overview:

To manage the selection, procurement and implementation of new pilot-scale manufacturing machines, equipment & technology. This will be a full life-cycle management approach, including all necessary hands-on testing, installation, commissioning (including management of appropriate contractors) & validation. Employing both engineering and project management skills as effectively as possible to provide the most appropriate business solutions.

Role holder shall abide at all times to company policies & procedures, and the governing standards & regulations, including but not limited to:-

• Any Local Hull site or S+N Shared Quality System / Health, Safety & Environment Policy, Procedure or Work Instruction contained in the individual’s training plans.

Applicable standards as defined in the Quality Manual including but not limited to :-

  • ISO 9001
  • ISO 14001
  • ISO 13485

Applicable regulations as defined in the Quality Manual including but not limited to -:

  • EU Medical Device Directive / Regulation o Regulations issued by the 5 MDSAP Jurisdictions
  • UK Human Medicines & Medical Device Regulations
  • GMP, cGDP (including 2013/C 343/01), cGLP as applicable for each role

Responsibilities:

  • Specify, source and purchase new capital equipment and install, validate and hand-over to end-user.
  • To supervise the work of contractors/suppliers and other S&N personnel as appropriate
  • To apply high standards of occupational Health & Safety in the workplace to comply with company policy and procedures.
  • To promote health & safety policies and procedures to encourage a safe working environment.
  • To be responsible for the review and approval of Validation documents, as documented in procedures.
  • To design/carry out and report, in a timely manner, engineering activities to support product/process design and developments.
  • To maintain an up-to-date awareness of state-of-the-art technology to maximise future profit and competitive strategy.
  • To contribute ideas to and support the R&D and NPI programme. If required, to provide engineering back-up in technology new to Smith & Nephew.
  • To understand Smith & Nephew’s current Global Wound Management manufacturing capability and contribute to the future strategic plans.
  • To act as an ambassador for Smith & Nephew in all dealings with third parties

Education and Experience:

A degree in an Engineering discipline or HNC & 5 years minimum engineering project experience and experience of project management and equipment safety regulations.

NEBOSH / IOSH Certificate.

Demonstrate effective project management and a proven knowledge and understanding of documentation/quality systems within Smith & Nephew Wound Management GBU.

Experience of process validation in a manufacturing and / or laboratory setting. Broad understanding of Wound Management conversion and packaging processes & equipment. Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing Green Belt.
