Our client, a Bexleyheath based local authority, seek a Principal Auditor to start a temp booking for up to 6 month starting immediately.

The role:

The Principal Auditor will assist the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager in providing assurance on the effectiveness of the Council’s systems of internal control, risk management, and governance processes.

The Principal Auditor will work closely with senior management to agree improvements to the ways in which the Council operates.

Organisational Control and Development

  1. Give consideration to the risks identified by Services and work in conjunction with the management team to ensure that the controls adequately address the risks, establishing whether they are working effectively.
  2. Analytical skills with the ability to undertake data analysis and data mining.
  3. Develop and encourage clear channels of two-way communication with client throughout the conduct of audit engagements.
  4. Contribute to the discussions of findings with Heads of Service, Directors, and agree Management Action Plans for the implementation of recommendations with them.
  5. Report significant risk or governance issues arising from the audits undertaken.
  6. Adhere to the Public Sector Internal Auditing Standards and the Council’s policies on diversity, equal opportunities and health and safety. 
  7. Keep fully informed of the latest developments in respect of relevant legislation and regulations including accountancy and audit regulations, risk and audit techniques.  
  8. To ensure that working practices and processes are developed that maximise the use of new technology to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services

The Successful candidate:

  • The Principal Auditor will require well-honed analytical and problem solving skills to assess the adequacy of current systems of internal control, risk management and governance.
  • The Principal Auditor will be required to exhibit exceptional diplomacy and communication skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to explain complex topics to non-auditing audiences and senior management.
  • The Principal Auditor will need to be adaptable, able to respond to new situations encountered and build up knowledge of the Council’s many diverse functions and systems.

Full time - flexible working arrangements (hybrid)

£22.16 PAYE per hour
