We are currently recruiting on behalf of Merseyside Police for the role of Police Staff Investigator.

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO POLICE VETTING CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS

PURPOSE:

To provide support to the hub in the investigation of Level 2 crime and to support the investigation of Level 1 and Level 3 crime. To take ownership of in-custody arrests, as determined by the application of the Investigation Allocation Model. To deal with suspect interviews, relevant investigation tasks and case preparation.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist with investigations proportionately by obtaining evidence from a number of internal / external sources including searching and interrogating Force systems; obtaining and reviewing CCTV and interviewing and obtaining of accounts from both victims, witnesses and suspects.
  • Complete administration tasks involved with the investigations of crime and other incidents including taking statements of evidence from victims of crime or those involved in other incidents and witnesses to such occurrences.
  • Produce when required complete and accurate prosecution files, including full disclosure of unused material, for delivery in accordance with CPS and court deadlines, thereby improving the quality of evidence presented and enhancing the prospect of a successful prosecution.
  • Ensure all elements of the Victim's Code of Practice are completed e.g. Victim Personal Statements obtained, MG2 completed MG6i completed to ensure victim needs are met and compliance with police obligations under the Code.
  • To seek and exploit criminal intelligence opportunities in order to prevent and detect crime, and to submit intelligence reports on suspected criminal activity as and when that intelligence becomes available.
  • Interview suspects, when required to ensure the collation of best evidence to prosecute offenders in a manner that is compliant with PACE and other legislation.
  • Undertake all responsibilities relating to information management, data quality, information sharing, intelligence and information security to ensure accordance with the Authorised Professional Practice (APP) on Information Management issued by the College of Policing including Home Office Code of Practice om MoPI.


ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES & EXPERIENCE:

  • P.I.P level 1 or 2 qualified (or equivalent experience) and either be PEACE trained, or willing to undertake PEACE training, in order to conduct quality interviews.
  • Thorough knowledge of the law, policy and procedures to effectively carry out their role to reflect the professionalism of the individual and the organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of National File standards in order to prepare case files.
