Band 5 Physiotherapist
Brain Injuries/Neurology
Salary £28,407-£34,581 pro rata
22.5 hours per week

Our client provides long term nursing care, rehabilitation, respite and award-winning end-of-life care to disabled ex-armed forces personnel from the RAF, Army, Royal Navy and auxiliary services.
The Physiotherapist provides effective assessment, treatment and management for a diverse range of clinical conditions. The Physiotherapist plays a key role within the multi-disciplinary team, works with the Head of Physiotherapy to define and implement developments in the service, and also provides teaching and training to health care professionals, students, residents and carers.
KEY RESULT AREAS

1. Assess, analyse and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual residents to determine their need for physiotherapy intervention.
2. Plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress resident care to maximise rehabilitation potential within specialist area.
3. Effectively manage an individual caseload of residents.
4. Provide support and direction to Physiotherapy colleagues in the management of their caseloads.
5. Ensure effective communications are maintained in order to deliver care.
6. Maintain clinical documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards.
7. Promote multidisciplinary team working by communicating effectively with clinical colleagues and participate in weekly multi-disciplinary meetings.
8. Implement appropriate clinical guidelines to optimise resident care.
9. Provide an on-call service as and where required
10. Participate in the assessment of wheelchair function and use and liaise with colleagues responsible for repairs and maintenance.
11. Manage, mentor and appraise junior Physiotherapy staff; manage staff performance issues.
12. Participate in physiotherapy in-service and if necessary lead team in-service training to promote personal development.
13. Produce and present projects to promote service development and / or personal development as and when required.
14. Assist in the teaching of nursing, medical, other multidisciplinary team members, educational staff and others to promote knowledge of physiotherapy management to enhance resident care.
15. Undertake other relevant duties as and when required.

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS
* Residents
o Provides and receives information regarding assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment to encourage compliance.
o Residents will have a range of medical problems and require the physiotherapist to utilise developed motivation and persuasion skills to facilitate rehabilitation both in an individual and group setting.
* Relatives / Carers
o Provide and receive information.
o Teach a range of resident management strategies.
* Physiotherapy Staff (internal / external)
o Consult senior staff for advice.
o Delegate tasks to Physiotherapy Assistants.
o Deal with relevant performance issues with more junior physiotherapy staff.
o Pass on information relating to resident transfer to both internal and external colleagues.
* Multidisciplinary team within the speciality
o Pass on resident assessment findings, resident progress with treatment and suggest other professional input requirements.
o Teach resident and family, if required, physiotherapy management strategies to optimise resident care.
* Medical Staff
o Pass on resident assessment findings, progress with treatment and suggest other professional input requirements.
* Other Agencies (Local Authority, voluntary sector, etc) Make referrals.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION

Skills to perform a wide range of physiotherapeutic manual techniques

Physical Demands:
* Therapeutic Handling
* Resident movement with use of mechanical aides, manoeuvre residents
* Push trolley's, wheelchairs
* Stand/walking for the majority of shift.
Mental Demands:
* Concentration required when assessing and treating residents through out day
* Workload priorities vary to meet service requirements.

Emotional Demands:
* Communicating with distressed/anxious/worried residents/relatives.
* Impart unwelcome news regarding resident's rehabilitation prospects
* Treating terminally ill residents

Working Conditions:
* Daily exposure to body fluids (sputum, sweat), odours
* Some exposure to a degree of verbal abuse from residents and relatives
