Here at Bournemouth & Poole College, we are looking to recruit a new Personal Development Tutor on a full-time basis (Term Time Only). In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £22,042 - £23,525 Term Time salary (£25,662 - £27,388 FTE) per annum.

The Personal Development Tutor Role:

As a Personal Development Tutor, you will deliver the cross college Personal Development Tutorial Programme and to provide ongoing support to students to promote their achievement across all aspects of the study programme within the designated curriculum area Science, Care, Health & Foundation.

Responsibilities as our Personal Development Tutor will include: 

  • Developing a relationship with their cohort of students, providing a trusted friendly point of contact
  • Working with students to promote pastoral and academic success, self-esteem, self-confidence and achievement
  • Delivering the weekly tutorials aspect of the Study Programme Timetable
  • Monitoring student progress to ensure progress is being made through close liaison with departmental teaching staff including those teaching English and mathematics
  • Reporting regularly to the Learning Manager on students who are a cause for concern.
  • Working closely with teaching team to monitor and ensure excellent attendance of students within their cohort.
  • Maintaining and updating student records systems to facilitate communication and the reporting of data 
  • Liaising between student/Director of Learning/Learning Manager/subject teacher/student support/ parents or carers
  • Supporting students through their preparation for progression in conjunction with other members of the Careers Advice and Guidance Team and Industry Placement team
  • Supporting and delivering progression activities as required
  • Working alongside the Learning Managers, Student Support, Cross College Personal Development Manager and Wellbeing

As our Personal Development Tutor, you’ll ideally have: 

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) English and Maths
  • Proven track record of success in supporting young people.
  • Ability to work with young people, parents/carers and colleagues, as appropriate
  • Knowledge of post-16 education and training
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications
  • Communication skills including written and verbal
  • Able to motivate students
  • Empathy with and strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students
