Payroll Officer

Location - EC1 (Hybrid)

Full time Temporary assignment 

Needed ASAP 

Salary - £13.79 - £14.10 per hour PAYE (Dependant on experience) 

My client, a world leader in training optical professionals, are seeing a Payroll Officer to join their Payroll Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing the payroll of the temporary workforce, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Inputting starters onto ESR within payroll deadlines and ensuring timely delivery of starter paperwork to the payroll department.
  • Maintaining electronic filing systems with a high level of security and confidentiality.
  • Providing information and advice on pay, service conditions, and the NHS Pension Scheme.
  • Processing payroll in line with SLAs, ESR best practice instructions, and internal Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Making accurate and authorised payments and resolving any payroll queries.
  • Maintaining payroll-related records and processing manual calculations as required.
  • Addressing escalated queries from temporary workers and explaining payroll information clearly to clients.
  • Ensuring all requests for payroll processing are fully completed and authorised before actioning.
  • Supporting the Payroll Liaison Officer with workload planning and coordination to meet payroll deadlines.
  • Uploading data files into ESR and escalating any issues as necessary.
  • Assisting in the production of payroll reports and processing appropriate reports, schedules, and documents.
  • Identifying and investigating discrepancies or queries in the payroll process and resolving or referring them as needed.
  • Validating all output from the payroll process to ensure correct payments.
  • Making systematic checks of changes and undertaking periodic ad-hoc quality assurance checks.
  • Supporting end of year/start of year actions and informing the temporary staffing team of any data or service issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • CIPP qualification and/or NVQ level 4 qualification, equivalent qualification, or equivalent level of experience within a payroll role is essential. 
  • Significant experience of processing NHS payroll using ESR is essential.
  • Detailed knowledge of legislation applicable to payroll. 
  • High level of attention to detail and accurate data input skills.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to analyse data to investigate and resolve payroll enquiries.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and an intermediate level of Excel.
