Job Title: Welfare and Pastoral Lead
Location: Wilmslow, Cheshire
Salary: £14.00 p/hr - £15.28 per hour (£25,015 - £27,302.83 actual salary) depending on experience
Hours: Permanent - 40 hours per week, Term time only Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking a Welfare and Pastoral Lead to join a specialist school supporting young people aged 5 to 19, who face difficulties as a result of complex communication needs typically associated with Autism Spectrum Conditions based in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The role:

We’re really excited to be looking for a Welfare and Pastoral Lead at Summerfields School. This post plays a vital role in supporting each pupil to be resilient and confidant learners by:-

  • Rewarding social development
  • Planning support strategies that avoid key sensory triggers.
  • Safeguarding the welfare and personal development of the young people.
  • Supporting young people to address key issues which impact on school attendance, engagement and outcomes across all key stages.

Key Duties:

  • To support staff to proactively manage the young people on a daily basis.
  • To support the safety of the school.
  • Maintain an overview of risk and higher end behaviours ensuring that all physical interventions (PI) are reviewed and action to support the reduction of PI is taken.
  • Monitor and report on attendance and punctuality across the site and actions taken to improve this as well as safeguarding checks.
  • Support in the delivery of the Social Skills curriculum by delivering, developing or managing groups of programmes e.g. Mindworks, Yoga, Feel Good Friday that support pupil wellbeing.
  • To be creative in ensuring young people have access to the curriculum by devising and supporting rewards, wellbeing and consequences as required.
  • Work with the clinical/ SENCo team to be the schools 'Adolescent mental health first aider’ or ELSA and ensure that support is available across the school.
  • To plan specific support and wellbeing interventions to key groups identified as needing help.
  • To support and manage all transitions into and out of the school to ensure pupils are able to manage their anxiety and wellbeing and that outside organisations are fully informed of support and wellbeing needs (SSP).

Experience /Qualifications:

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • Experience of managing others
  • GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
  • Previous experience of working in a SEN setting (ASC and SEMH) and ability to apply ASC practice including the use of visuals.
  • Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation and experience in a safeguarding role.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of behaviour management reporting systems.
  • Understanding of Legislation regarding Physical Interventions.
  • Timely, accurate and effective reporting skills.
