Job Title: Family and Child Law Paralegal

Location: Grays, Essex, RM17 5XY

Salary: Competitive Salary based on experience

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.30pm

About the Role:

As a Family and Child Law Paralegal, you will be required to support a Partner in the family and child law department, and there may also be an opportunity for you to have your own case load.

Key Responsibilities:

  • On being requested to do so, to assist in the processing of all enquiries and dealing with all aspects of a case from initial instructions to completion in such way as to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the practice
  • Attending clients where appropriate to do so of relevant matters under supervision
  • Attending Court with Counsel and assisting Counsel during Court session as required
  • To deal with new client enquiries and speak to them on the day that they contact us for advise if required
  • To liaise with the supervising Partner about the allocation of new clients to the relevant fee earners
  • To complete a Legal help form or apply for legal aid, whatever is appropriate, if the client is eligible if required after training on legal aid if required
  • To ensure that any Legal help forms completed are checked by the appropriate member of staff as soon as possible after having seen the client
  • Carrying out any request which is authorised by a Partner of the firm and is consistent with his or her general duties
  • Preparation of bundles of Pleadings
  • Instruction of Counsel
  • Time recording promptly all work carried out
  • Archiving old files
  • Assisting other Fee Earners in their cases when requested
  • Processing distributing and answering mail and telephone communications in accordance with requirements of the Office Manual

About You:

  • Previous family and child law experience and legal aid experience desirable but not essential
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A confident and professional telephone manner
  • The ability to stay clam under pressure
  • Be discreet and tactful
  • Self motivated and able to use own initiative
  • Confident when using a computer and office equipment
  • Good administration and organisational skills
