Position Overview: We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Ophthalmology Registrar to join our team. In this role, you will work under the supervision of consultant ophthalmologists to provide high-quality clinical care to patients with ophthalmic conditions. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated registrar to enhance their clinical skills and gain valuable experience in ophthalmology while working in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with ophthalmic conditions, including conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing eye disorders, and developing individualized treatment plans.
  • Perform ophthalmic procedures and surgeries under the supervision of consultant ophthalmologists, including cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and retinal procedures.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings to review patient progress, discuss treatment plans, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide pre-and post-operative care to patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures, including performing pre-operative assessments, providing patient education, and monitoring post-operative recovery.
  • Assist in the teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students, and allied healthcare professionals, including providing supervision and feedback on clinical practice and procedures.
  • Participate in audit, research, and quality improvement projects to enhance clinical practice and contribute to advancements in ophthalmology.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.

Requirements:
  • Medical degree from a recognized medical school
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology (or relevant specialty)
  • Previous experience working in ophthalmology or relevant clinical experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and proficiency in performing ophthalmic examinations and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care and maintaining professional standards of practice
  • Willingness to participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities and professional development opportunities
