We have a fantastic opportunity for a Network Development Engineer to join our DSO team in Salford.

The DSO function will develop and justify that ENWL’s load related investment programme can facilitate the developments and decarbonisation plans of local stakeholders and customers. To deliver this function, information and data from a wide range of stakeholders that extend from local authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) to businesses, needs to be gathered and processed so that they can be modelled within the Distribution Future Electricity Scenarios (DFES) and inform network planning.

Our role

As a Network Development Engineer you will engage with local authorities on their Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs) and other developments providing the technical support they need, as well as being responsible for drafting compliance reporting submissions, identifying network needs via studies and producing reinforcement programmes.

Key accountabilities of your role include:

  • Influencing reinforcement by reflecting LAEPs in forecasts;
  • The draft submission of regulatory license condition reporting (NDP) (including Network Development Plan, Distribution Network Options Assessment);
  • Being accountable for producing and communicating capacity headroom forecasts that inform the whole reinforcement programme;
  • To support whole system planning processes that will be introduced with the presence of Regional Energy System Planners (RESPs) and a nationalised Electricity System Operator.

What you’ll need:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (essential);
  • Proven experience in power systems and electrical network modelling, e.g. using tools such as IPSA, DIgSILENT or prototype tools on other software platforms (desirable);
  • Experience in related engineering (preferably on electricity distribution planning) or relevant research areas (desirable);
  • Experience in engagement with local stakeholders including local authority planning departments, project developers, businesses (desirable);
  • Public speaking skills (desirable);
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. the IET, IEEE) (desirable).
