Our client, a global Tier 1 financial services institution, are looking for a MLRO to lead their UK entity, based in London. The UK MLRO will serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Compliance and Operational Risk Officers of the Front Line Units and Control Functions for the company and to the leaders directly. The chosen individual will drive the development of enterprise-wide money laundering, economic sanctions, and fraud compliance and operational risk practices consistent with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and regulatory guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • The UK MLRO oversees independent financial crimes risk management reporting to Global Compliance & Operational Risk Senior Leaders and Front Line Units and Control Functions Senior Leaders via established governance and management routines.
  • Advises and directs business leaders coordinating with the compliance and operational risk teams to ensure that regulatory requirements and operational risks are addressed in their respective procedures and controls so that their daily activities operate in a compliant manner.
  • Participates in industry forums and monitors regulatory expectations, emerging legislation and regulation, political scrutiny, litigation and key influencers (trade associations, PACs, lobbyists, consumer groups, and media) in the EAC subject area to identify and mitigate emerging risks.
  • Has oversight for the development and maintenance of financial crimes owned policies and standards and the review of relevant owned policies and standards to ensure that regulatory requirements and operational risks are appropriately addressed.
  • Escalates financial crimes related compliance and operational risks and issues to appropriate governance routines, management/board level committees.

Requirements:

  • Strong track record of relevant work experience in Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud and/or Economic Sanctions
  • Demonstrated leadership to partner across various levels in the organisation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate and work with all levels within the organisation.
  • Experience responding to Audits and/or Regulatory Examinations.
  • Crisp organisation.
  • Must possess excellent time-management, problem solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Must work across a matrix organisation.
  • Identify, own and escalate data issues as needed.
  • Must be able to engage and leverage teams and business partners to efficiently deliver business solutions.
