Metal Trading Assistant

Our client is a global Non-Ferrous Metals trading company; part of an international group based in Central London.

As part of the Front Office team, the successful candidate will provide essential support to the Non-Ferrous Metals trading team. This will involve building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate maintenance of trading inputs and associated risks. The role requires strong attention to detail and proactive thinking.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Supporting the trading of Non-Ferrous metals (mainly aluminium and copper) in accordance with the operations policy, and within approved trading limits.
  • Support risk management processes (market, credit, legal, tax, etc.) appropriately and always seek to minimize the risk.
  • Support non-ferrous metal trading with suppliers, customers, and other parties, to include, market risk, credit control, contract terms and conditions, laws and regulations, duties and taxes including VAT.
  • Support the daily close of the position and position monitoring.
  • Support hedging of daily position including FX exposures and averaging and sending of pricing confirmations of same to external counterparts.
  • Timely entry of pricing and FX contract data into our trading system.
  • Timely entry of trades into the trading system.
  • Contract entry and management within the trading system.
  • Provide details, data and information of trading required by others.
  • Initiate new counterpart KYC procedure liaising with the Legal Department and Risk Management team.
  • Complete credit line applications and consignment credit line applications, liaising with traders and Risk team.
  • Liaise with the risk management team to resolve various credit questions and issues.
  • Check our contracts and counterparty contracts liaising with Legal, and Front Office to prepare various contractual clauses/amendments/agreements as necessary.
  • Support Front Office team to prepare various types of contractual documents, including guarantee agreements, consignment agreements, novation agreements, termination agreements etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (overseas equivalents apply). In the absence of a relevant degree, relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience of non-ferrous metals trading including hedging, credit risk control and basics of operations and trade document management.
  • Demonstrable experience of physical/future transactions in a non-ferrous metals Risk Management environment (such as Aluminium, Copper, Zinc etc.)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office PC skills - especially a thorough knowledge of Excel to intermediate level (arranging formulas, v look ups and pivot tables) in order to present data and recommendations clearly and accurately.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in English language.
  • Previous experience of systems and/or workflow process improvement (e.g., CTRM).
  • High standard of ethics and integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Ability to learn, understand, comply, and adapt to various company policies, internal rules and guidelines.
  • Works well under pressure whilst remaining calm and methodical.
  • Solve problems on own initiative and know when to ask for advice when needed.
  • Prioritises work under the general guidance of the line manager/department manager.
  • Excellent time management skills, with ability to multi-task whilst working with tight deadlines.
  • Network in the non-ferrous metals industry is desirable.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and logistics operations is desirable.
  • A competency in programming languages (VBA/Python) would be beneficial.
