Mergers & Acquisitions Manager

Southampton / Hybrid Role

£60,000 - £65,000 + bonus (£75k OTE)

I am extremely happy to announce a new working partnership between Barribal Associates and a household name in the UK & Ireland safety market. The organisation is a successful, nationwide, private equity backed business that is absolutely regarded as the leader in their field.

The business has driven significant growth over the last few years, both organically and by acquisition and has an enviable track record of seamlessly attracting, acquiring and integrating many businesses into the group. M&A is a critical part of the company’s ambitions for the future, and the M&A team therefore has significant exposure to the Board and Shareholders.

The M&A Director, known to me for a number of years, is now seeking to appoint an M&A Manager to further accelerate their acquisition plans. The current pipeline is very strong and they are expecting to increase that further, while maintaining the quality of transaction delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding candidate who wishes to gain further exposure to the entire deal process end to end, with support from the M&A Director.

The successful appointee will be responsible for building and managing a pipeline of potential deals from valuation analysis and negotiations, through to managing due diligence workstreams and liaising with the integrations team to ensure a successful integration.

Head Office is located near Southampton, Hampshire and the M&A team typically spends one day each week there and otherwise works remotely. Travel is required to meet vendors and advisors across the UK. The team works flexibly and puts a strong emphasis on collaboration and regular informal interaction to ensure they are working effectively together.

Your remit will include, but not be limited to:

  • To support the M&A Director in the identification of suitable acquisition targets and successfully manage transaction processes from start to finish.
  • Maintain an awareness of the commercial landscape in order to contribute to the acquisition pipeline.
  • Work collaboratively with drive and pace to ensure the opportunity pipeline remains strong and transactions are completed efficiently.
  • Managing external advisors and ensuring their work delivers the outputs required to approve each transaction.
  • To conduct in depth financial analysis and reporting in order to arrive at an appropriate valuation and recommendation.
  • Play a leading part in negotiations with leadership teams, both internally and in target businesses.
  • Create investment papers in support of potential deals as required to support the board and wider business.
  • Manage due diligence processes, including where undertaken by third party advisors, in order to identify key deal risks and potential integration challenges.
  • Succinctly summarise key commercial, legal, financial, tax and operational due diligence findings for the integrations team.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate three years plus of experience within an M&A environment with exposure to lower mid-market transaction processes. You may come from a Transaction Services/Advisory firm and will therefore likely be ACA qualified (a distinct bonus) or from a low-mid market Private Equity House or Corporate Development function.

You will have a very analytically driven approach to your work with exceptional attention to detail, backed by exemplary report writing and presentation skills. Ideally you will have some due diligence experience and exposure to end-to-end transaction processes. But most important, will be your commitment to delivery, coupled with a career focussed desire to succeed.

For those who deliver, the opportunity to make a standout contribution and be recognised by a highly accomplished and successful senior management team can only reap rewards for your career development. This role will provide a platform for terrific progression - it is your desire and ability to deliver upon your commitments that will realise that opportunity.

Barribal Associates and the organisations it represents are fully committed to equal opportunities and encourage applications from any age, disability, gender, marital status, race, nationality, religion or sexual orientation.
