Mental Health Counsellor

Location: The post will be based at Hounslow and EACH Ealing (Head Office) and will be required to work from any of EACH’s locations based on the needs of the service. Remote working may be required.
Salary: £26,000 - £30,450 (including Outer London Weighting) for Full Time Equivalent (37.5hrs).
Hours: 37.5 hours (Full Time)
Qualifications: Recognised counselling qualification and registration with appropriate professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP).
Contract: Subject To continuous funding and performance.

EACH provides a range of specialist services to individuals and families affected by mental health, domestic violence and alcohol and substance misuse issues.

We are looking for qualified counsellors who are skilled in their practice and compassionate about making a difference to people’s lives to help them recover from the impact of mental health, trauma and domestic abuse.

Successful postholders will be responsible for providing one to one emotional support, structured counselling and group work to either BAME women/men experiencing domestic violence and abuse or/and Asylum seekers experiencing mental health and or clients who have experienced trauma relating to migration and their first language is not English.

As our Mental Health Counsellor your key duties will include:

  • To access, assess, engage, provide structured counselling and group work for BAME community who are non/limited English speakers, recent arrivals (refugees and asylum seekers); to BAME women/men experiencing domestic abuse and/or asylum seekers on their mental health
  • To contribute to the overall activities and success of EACH’s services.
  • To establish good working relationships within the local partnerships and promote the service to both professionals and local communities.
  • To support volunteer and trainee counsellors jointly with other projects and EACH staff.
  • Work collaboratively within EACH and with our partners.

You Will Need:

  • A recognised counselling Qualification (minimum diploma level or equivalent) and registration with a professional governing body, e.g. BACP, UKCP.
  • Experience of counselling and supporting members of BAME communities affected by mental health and/or domestic violence and abuse.
  • Ability to conduct counselling and support in a community language relevant to asylum seekers (Farsi, Pashto, Dari, Arabic) and to local BAME communities (Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Somali).
  • Knowledge of the issues and barriers faced by members from BAME communities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health and/or domestic abuse.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including some evening/weekend phone/digital based sessions where needed.
