Adecco are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Adviser to join a prestigious university in Kingston

Salary: £19.51

Duration: ASAP - 3 Months

Contract type: Temporary / Hybrid working

Purpose of the role: To contribute to a professional and specialist advice and guidance service to disabled students, with a focus on those diagnosed with mental health conditions to enable them to access their studies successfully, and to encourage academic progress and student retention.

To contribute to the work of the Students Directorate in the formulation, promotion, delivery, monitoring and review of university policies and procedures relating to disabled students to ensure legal and contractual obligations under equality legislation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To provide a professional and specialist advice and information service to disabled students. This service is to be provided for prospective students, offer holders and current students at Kingston University.
  • To accurately interpret and keep up to date with all relevant legislation related to disabled students, to ensure accurate and appropriate advice is offered at all times.
  • To maintain a caseload; providing continual support for applicants and students as appropriate, taking into account any urgent action required and mandatory deadlines for submission of applications. This may also involve regular reviews and updates of provision, case conferences with Faculty staff and other professional services to ensure that students are able to access their studies effectively throughout their time at Kingston University.
  • To offer advice on individual student's needs and to recommend reasonable adjustments through a summary of support needs documents. Where appropriate, to make referrals to an approved Needs Assessment Centre or other relevant funding to cover student's support needs.
  • To actively use the online student enquiry and case management system to keep thorough, accurate and up to date client case notes ensuring compliance with the GDPR and professional standards.
  • To identify circumstances where it is necessary to breach confidentiality, and to invoke emergency procedures or referrals where necessary, ensuring that duty of care responsibilities are discharged at all times.
  • To liaise with community mental health teams, local authority social services and other relevant agencies in the support of students with diagnosed/suspected mental health conditions.
  • To be a recognised advisory point of contact for university staff and stakeholders when dealing with students with a mental health condition.
  • To liaise with appropriate academic and other relevant staff and external providers to ensure that anticipatory and reasonable adjustments required by students are implemented, in accordance with equality legislation, including non-medical support workers.
  • To contribute to promoting good practice to ensure compliance and improvements in provision for disabled students and participate in achieving relevant targets set in the University's access and participation plan and/or Public Sector Equality Duty objectives.
  • Support as required the delivery of key University activities including but not limited to: open days and other recruitment events, enrolment, welcome activities and Faculty or Directorate specific events.
  • To undertake regular training and continuing professional development in order to maintain and develop skill sets including maintaining a good working knowledge of the University Academic Regulations and how they pertain to supporting students.
