A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a mechanical engineer (design) to join a leading manufacturer and supplier to a variety of industries including offshore, renewable energy and marine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.
  • Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
  • Generation of ideas for developments and new products.
  • Be responsible for small projects, or sub-sections or larger projects.
  • Produce engineering designs, specifications, and documentation to ISO 9001.
  • Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Offsite engineering support for new products.
  • Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.
  • Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
  • Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international regulations.
  • Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
  • Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.
  • Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.

Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable design experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances).
  • Structural analysis, scoping qualifications, hand calculations.
  • Mechanisms, kinematics and power transmission.
  • Oil, gas and water hydraulics, including sealing systems e.g. O-rings, seals, hydraulic fittings etc.
  • Offshore engineering experience
  • Assembly methods and maintenance.
  • Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
  • Ergonomics.
  • Completing and checking designs and documentation.
  • Tolerancing, limits and fits.
  • Drawing layout and symbols.
  • Finite Element Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding and NDT requirements.
  • Good theoretical understanding of material science for Subsea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects.
  • Safety conscious, attentive to QHS&E policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
  • Sound engineering knowledge.
  • Cost consciousness.
  • Technical drawing competence as defined above.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects.
  • Ability to liaise with other members of staff including customers and third parties.
  • Time management with ability to plan work loadings, multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing, good record keeping.
  • Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
  • Software skills, Microsoft Office Suite, 2D and 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks).
  • Willingness to learn new engineering skills.

Additional Details:

  • 37 hours per week, 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday
  • Office based, no home/hybrid working available
  • 25 days holidays plus 8 fixed bank holidays
  • 5% pension
  • Overtime – time and half Mon-Sat and double time Sunday
