Randstad are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer for a client based in Chepstow. They are a growing company that specialise in designing and manufacturing mechanical products for a variety of industries.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative Mechanical Engineering team and will be responsible for designing and developing components, assemblies and whole products.

Mission:

To support the growth and expansion of the business and to continue to innovate and develop a pipeline of new products.

Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the development of new products and/or implement improvements to their existing product range by creating feasible, cost effective, reliable, and safe mechanical designs
  • To develop unique solutions for specific customer requirements
  • To manage projects using engineering principles and techniques
  • To prepare technical drawings for new products, quotation offerings and production for custom orders
  • To perform handwritten calculations and utilise FEA analysis to predict structural behaviours
  • To produce reports when required to present technical analysis and data
  • To utilise our MRP system to create, manage and maintain Bills of materials
  • To create and update technical files to guarantee product compliance with relevant standards and legislation
  • To perform test and validation of products in accordance with standard test requirements
  • To keep up to date with all relevant industry standards, regulations and directives and be able to identify any changes that could affect certification or compliance of our products
  • To work with other members of the engineering team and other departments to achieve mutual goals

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry experience
  • Strong Math and CAD systems skills - SolidWorks would be preferred but not essential
  • FEA experience would be very beneficial

  • Good Visual and Spatial awareness
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, able to hit deadlines
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
  • Good understanding of manufacturing process and construction methods
  • Great attention to detail
  • Highly efficient and proactive
  • Commercial awareness
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Able to collaborate and work well in a team
  • Naturally inquisitive
  • Experience of working with aluminium materials and structures would be advantageous

This is a full time permanent position with a salary of £35,000-£45,000 depending on experience.

The role will be fully on site and has an early finish on Fridays.
