Mechanical Design Engineer Portsmouth Up to £40k

Progressive GE and an Engineering Innovator in Mechanical Systems & Products for Defence, Aerospace, Marine & Medical Sectors are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer on a Staff basis, for their Engineering & Manufacturing HQ based near Portsmouth, due to significant business growth and project pipeline for 2025-2026 onwards.

Reporting in the Chief Mechanical Engineer, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle design (from concept) of complex Mechanical Systems & Products for safety-critical & regulated industries, including Defence, Rail, Aerospace, Marine & Medical applications.

Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Producing concept & detailed designs using CAD Software, including design schemes, detailed design & manufacturing drawings, reports & associated documentation
  • Conduct and/or support Stress & Safety Analysis (though calculations & analysis software)
  • Contribute to qualification test schedules (test definitions) and witness testing
  • Provide support for failure investigations.

Experience, Qualifications & Experience Required for Mechanical Design Engineer Role:

  • HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc)
  • 3D CAD Design experience (Concept & Detailed) & ability to use FEA software / create hand and software-based calculations
  • Industrial experience designing complex mechanical systems and/or products for regulated industries / safety-critical environments, working to industry standards, codes & regulations.
  • GA & Detailed Design experience, as well as DFM, including fabrication, welding & machining processes
  • Knowledge of metallic materials (incl. mechanical, static & fatigue properties)
  • Ability to write reports and specifications.

For the successful Mechanical Design Engineer, a salary of up to £40k + Benefits is on offer and my client work a 37 hour working week (0730 - 1600 Monday to Thursday, 0730-1230 Friday) and this Mechanical Design Engineer role is 5 days on-site and commutable from Southampton, Hamble, Fareham, Eastleigh, Waterlooville, Chichester, Winchester, Bognor Regis & Havant.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER ROLE IS A STAFF / PERMANENT POSITION AND THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO BE ELIGIBLE TO BE SECURITY CLEARED.
