Soufflet Malt have been at the Burton site since 2015 and operate 2 process lines producing in excess of 126,000 tonnes of quality malt into the brewing industry. The Burton site is part of the InVivo group which has 39 malting plants across the world.

 The role:

We are seeking to appoint additional Mechanical and Electrical Shift Engineers at our plant at Burton on Trent. We are looking for multiskilled individuals that demonstrate either a preference in Mechanical or Electrical.

Our plant is operational 24/7 and we are looking for hands on and pragmatic Technicians to work across the whole of our large and busy Plant, which sees the whole end to end journey from barley to malt. Working in a small multifunctional team of 4, we are seeking knowledgeable individuals who can offer the flexibility to support and cover duties across our close knit teams, and also share their own knowledge too across their own area of expertise.

We need quick thinkers, who are confident in fault finding and enjoy problem solving and who is able to communicate effectively across all levels of the business.

 The ideal Mechanical Technician will:

  • Hold an accredited qualification, such as an apprenticeship and/or Technical qualification with applicable mechanical background
  • Experience/Qualifications in welding and fabrication
  • Experience in maintaining conveying systems
  • Have a working knowledge of the Statutory Regulations and Codes of Practice applicable to the maintenance industry with IOSH Working Safely and a specific qualification relating to the mechanical trade, would be desirable.
  • Have a proven track record in providing both planned and reactive maintenance in an industrial manufacturing environment - previous shift experience is a must.
  • Have the required experience in your area of expertise, for example confident working machining tools including welding sets
  • Be a driven and enthusiastic team player, but who also does not mind working on their own initiative
  • Have a keen eye for detail and enjoys problem solving and fault finding
  • Have the ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
  • Have the ability to create engineering drawings from scratch
  • Does not mind working at height, in confined spaces and working with barley and malt - our environment can get dusty!
  • Experience in a similar role within food production would be desirable
  • Have experience in creating job reports using a version of CMMS

The ideal Electrical Technician will:

  • Hold an accredited qualification such as an apprenticeship and/or Technical qualification with applicable electrical background - City and Guilds 2391 (Testing & Inspection) / BTec/NC/ NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation
  • A knowledge of the 17th and / or 18th edition of wiring regulations would be desirable
  • Have knowledge of 3 phase motor circuits/Inverters/DOL Starters
  • Have a working knowledge of the Statutory Regulations and Codes of Practice applicable to the maintenance industry with IOSH Working Safely and a specific qualification relating to the electrical trade, would be desirable.
  • Have a proven track record in providing both planned and reactive maintenance in an industrial manufacturing environment - previous shift experience is a must.
  • Extremely experienced and knowledgeable with PLC's preferably Allen Bradley and SCADA systems.  Reading/Writing Code, Fault Finding, Networks creating graphics on a SCADA system".

The role of our Shift Technicians:

  • To provide mechanical engineering expertise across the plant, including Condition Based Monitoring - both planned and reactive support
  • Operate Maltings control systems as required, implement Asset Care strategy and take responsibility for auditing and monitoring best practice in key WCO elements such as 5S, VPM, Focused Improvement and Quality
  • To ensure that all work carried out meets all local hygiene, environmental and Health and Safety legislation.
