Maternity Cover Primary SENCO

Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

Contract Type: Maternity Cover, Part-Time (3 days per week)

This consists of 2 days in the Junior School, and 1 day in the Infant School.

Start Date: April 2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our vibrant primary school in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. We are seeking a passionate individual to provide maternity cover for a part-time position, working across both junior and infant sectors of our school.

Role Overview: As the Maternity Cover Primary SENCO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of high-quality support and interventions for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to create and implement individual education plans (IEPs) that meet the diverse needs of our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers to identify pupils with SEND and provide timely support and interventions.
  • Lead the coordination and implementation of the school's SEND policy and provision.
  • Conduct assessments and reviews of pupils' progress, adjusting support strategies as necessary.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists and health professionals, to access additional support and resources.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff in implementing effective teaching strategies for pupils with SEND.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and support interventions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) and relevant SEND qualifications (e.g., National Award for SEN Coordination).
  • Proven experience working as a SENCO or in a similar role within a primary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, pupils, and parents.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
