We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Manager to join a well-established engineering R&D company based in Bedfordshire.  The company is focusing on developing brand new disruptive technology which are helping to revolutionise high precision engineering companies in industries such as Aerospace, Space, Defence, Automotive, etc. They are now looking for a skilled Manufacturing Manager with knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques, production procedures, excellent attention to detail and, ideally, with fitting and inspection activities experience to be involved in development, support the planning, manufacturing and testing of a range of high precision designs.
Due to the nature of the work the successful candidate will need to satisfy security clearance requirements – including the last 5 years continual UK residency.
  
Manufacturing Manager`s responsibilities:
  
  • Managing complex manufacturing projects, working on development and implementation of strategies for process improvement and commercial growth.
  • Supporting Production Engineering being involved in the manufacturing planning process, resource estimation, production planning procedures, bidding for work as well as fitting and inspection responsibilities.
  • Exploring new technologies, forecasting capacity and capability, working in line with company strategies, managing turnover and headcount.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, provide appraisals, clear instructions.
  • Prepare project documentation, working within budget and to project schedule, observe quality standards and H&S procedures, engineering reviews.
  
Manufacturing Manager`s requirements:
  
  • Degree or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or similar
  • At least 5 years of recent and relevant experience in Manufacturing or Production Manager within a R&D environment
  • Extensive knowledge of design, manufacturing and production procedures, machines, tools, and manufacturing techniques used in the manufacture of tightly tolerance metallic componentry, fitting and inspection experience.
  • Good understanding of 6 Sigma, 5S and Lean manufacturing techniques
  • Project management experience using tools and methodologies, line management and ability to support more junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Strong problem solving and excellent time management skills, excellent communication skills.
  
Location: Bedfordshire (commutable from Bedford, St. Neots, Luton, Royston, Milton Keynes, Cambridge etc.)
