Our business is an SME, single-site materials handling business. The business operates nationally and is based in the Midlands. We are looking to recruit a full time Managing Director to take on overall responsibility for the group.

Our business operates with a close-knit team of 20 staff but is highly profitable and has exciting growth plans. It has a particular specialism in complex in situ installations of MHE, for which it is very well known.

The candidate will take on responsibility for profit and performance, leadership of the group - both internally and externally - and for pushing the business forward.

The board are looking for a candidate with either (or a combination of) strong experience in the design, supply and installation of installed materials handling equipment or experience in growing and managing businesses in the intralogistics sector.

They will take on operational responsibility and provide oversight to all aspects of the company.

The role will require some knowledge and oversight of the finance function, as well as an interaction with 3rd party funders, though depending on experience, support will be provided by the board, and there is a fully qualified Accountant working in the business.

The business currently operates well and is now in a position to be driven forward to the next level. Therefore, the role is best suited for someone who is willing and able to push the business on to meet the board’s targets for growth and profit. This will most likely be via sales but also possibly across systems and processes.

As a consequence, experience in growing profitable SMEs is highly sought after, as is an ability to lead and motivate teams, from senior managers to junior team members.

An MD who is able to grow the business in line with the board’s expectations will be very well remunerated.

The successful candidate will be provided with a high degree of autonomy and will be expected to perform in such an environment.

Key Skills:

Experience of materials handling equipment design, supply and install. Ideally you would have experience as a contractor or engineer, so that you would join with a network of customers and contacts to bring to the new business.

Entrepreneurial and driven

Proven results across Sales roles before, specifically with experience of increasing sales and growing profitably in an SME environment; ideally, experience in Statutory Director and senior management roles

Willing to take on typical SME tasks when required, in addition to working at a strategic level with the board
