An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a company based in the outskirts of Cardiff for a hardworking and technically minded Accountant. Reporting and working closely with the Group Financial Controller you will be required to provide a professional and timely accounting service and deal with the preparation and submission of the monthly management accounts. You will be responsible for a number of highly prestigious projects, where you will provide advice, guidance and financial support to the operational teams.

My client will consider candidates on both a temporary and permanent basis to join their business.

The suitable candidate will ideally be qualified / part qualified although exceptional QBEs will be considered if you have a proven track record within the sector and have held a similar role previously. Having a background within the engineering, construction and/or facilities management sector would be highly advantageous. This is a great opportunity to work for a business that has continued to grow despite the current climate and would suit an individual that enjoys working within an owner-managed business and is happy to make the role their own.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with the production of the month end management accounts packs
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Fixed assets
  • Accruals and prepayments
  • Detailed variance analysis
  • Provide financial advice to project managers
  • Preparation and posting of the monthly journals
  • VAT returns
  • Assist with the budgets and year-end
  • Oversee the purchase/sales ledger functions
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly sales reports
  • Look at ways to drive efficiencies and process improvement within the department

Person Specification:

  • Proactive in approach, works well on their own initiative and has a 'can do' attitude to getting things done
  • The ability to understand complex financial information and explain this to non-finance colleagues is also key for the post
  • This is a diverse and varied role, so you will need to be a dynamic and driven individual who is looking to consolidate your recent accounting experience whilst learning the job
  • Intermediate Excel skills - essential
  • Previous Sage experience - advantageous

This opportunity will solely be based in an office

Office hours are Monday to Friday 9 - 5 with an hour for lunch. However, if you start / finish work 30 mins earlier / later each day, you can take advantage of a 2pm finish on Fridays!
