Private Wealth Management (PWM) is part of the Asset and Wealth Management Division of Goldman Sachs. PWM provides a comprehensive range of investment services, including discretionary investment management, investment advice, brokerage services and lending, to wealthy individuals and families worldwide, across a diversified range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, structured products, derivatives, hedge funds and other alternative investments. PWM in EMEA focuses primarily on individuals, families and family offices based in EMEA, who may invest individually or through a wide variety of investment vehicles including corporates, trusts, partnerships, regulated and unregulated funds, in a broad range of jurisdictions.
Marcus UK (Marcus) is part of the Private Banking, Lending and Deposits Division of Goldman Sachs. Marcus offers a variety of competitive savings products to help meet the needs of its UK retail customers and to help them reach their financial goals.
Currently, the EMEA PWM and Marcus businesses are supported by four lawyers in London, two lawyers in Birmingham and other lawyers in Zurich and Frankfurt, all of whom regularly work closely with colleagues in PWM Legal in the US and Asia.
The Legal Division

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and resilient candidate, who is interested in a technically challenging and rewarding advisory role. The role requires the ability to work independently from day one and to manage a diverse and complex workload advising on a range of issues including new product and service offerings, implementation of new regulations and specific client situations. Lawyers in the Wealth Management team work closely with a diverse group of clients across the PWM and Marcus businesses and the broader Legal Division and thrive on the pressures of delivering consistently high quality advice to dynamic and constantly evolving businesses.
More specifically, the role responsibilities include:
  • Advising PWM and Marcus on all aspects of the client relationship from pitches through to structuring of accounts and account opening procedures, negotiation of account documentation and investment restrictions, and support on client or transaction-specific questions.
  • Advising PWM and Marcus on a variety of business issues, including new business initiatives, impact of regulation on new and existing business, and changes to existing product and service offerings.
  • Advising on a wide range of regulatory topics across the UK and EU, such as interpretation of new and existing regulations and assessment of the impact of regulations to our business activities, advising on complex cross-border questions, and assisting with the identification of new regulations that may impact the PWM and/or Marcus businesses.
  • Advising product specialists in PWM and Marcus on all aspects of product development and documentation.
  • Liaising with other lawyers in the Goldman Sachs Legal Division globally.
  • Liaising with outside counsel on a broad range of domestic and cross-border jurisdictional issues.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
We are targeting qualified lawyers in the 2-4 years PQE range (ideally with experience in asset management, regulation, retail banking or private wealth). Candidates are expected to have relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel. Knowledge of a major European language would be useful.
