Are you passionate about supporting students in the special educational needs sector? Zest is currently recruiting for a SEND school based in Erdington for a SEND Learning Support Assistant to start as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and will be working with secondary-aged students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).

Responsibilities of the SEND Learning Support Assistant role:

  • Supporting students during lessons by explaining concepts, providing additional explanations, and offering assistance with tasks as needed
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to implement and monitor individual education plans for the students, ensuring that their specific needs are met
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to support students - including de-escalation techniques, positive reinforcement, and setting clear expectations
  • Assisting students with developing communication skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication

Requirements of the SEND Learning Support Assistant role:

  • The ability to remain patient and empathetic when working with students who may struggle with learning or exhibit challenging behaviours
  • The confidence to adapt to changing situations and respond appropriately to the individual needs of students
  • Being able to work collaboratively as part of a team, including with teachers and other support staff, to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students’ needs

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are: Recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years, teaching within a school teaching the British Curriculum).
