Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Hartlepool. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, helping them to achieve their full potential.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, both in a classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist in creating a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Utilise effective behaviour management strategies to handle challenging situations calmly and effectively.
  • Encourage and assist pupils with their educational and social development, including the development of self-esteem and confidence.
  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience working with SEMH pupils and children with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of children with SEMH and the strategies required to support them.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate approach to dealing with difficult situations.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of SEMH and special educational needs.
