Veritas Laboratory Services Ltd (VLS Ltd), founded in 2022, is a privately owned, independent analytical laboratory based in Southampton, Hampshire. Laboratory specialises in analysis of Dioxins/Furans, PCBs, PFAS (including PFOS and PFOA testing) and other Persistent Organic Pollutants in environmental samples such as: soil, ash, sediment, sludge and waters (effluent, surface and ground).

VLS has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician based in Bartley, near Southampton. This is full time on-site position (35hrs/week), Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00. Salary £23,000 - £25,000 per annum, temp to perm - 6 months probatory contract. Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided. This role may suite candidates searching for their first laboratory job.

The Laboratory Technician is principally responsible for sample preparation in a safe manner and in accordance with the requirements of VLS’s Quality Systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and unpack deliveries.
  • Ensure samples received are handled in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Prepare samples to required standard ready for extraction and clean-up.
  • Perform a range of analytical testing as required by the Management Team to support routine operations.
  • Communicate any operational problems and issues that may affect quality or service delivery to the Management Team.
  • Set up and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Undertake any tasks within the laboratory appropriate to level of training.
  • Maintain accurate records and stock level as detailed in the quality procedures.
  • Maintain the working environment in a clean and tidy manner.
  • Follow safety protocols and regulations.
  • Disposal of used chemicals and test samples.
  • To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.

  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and prioritise under pressure.
  • Confidence working as both part of a busy team and unsupervised.

Suitable candidates will also have enthusiasm, energy, and strong communications skills.
