We pleased to announce that due to Company growth, an exciting vacancy has arisen for a part-time Laboratory Technician to join our team at Future Space, Bristol. This is a part-time role, working 15 hours per week (0.4FTE).

Working alongside colleagues in the centre, with support from the central Operations team, you will ensure that Oxford Innovation Space maintain a safe, compliant working environment in the lab so that Future Space can offer a market leading service.  Future Space is a leading Innovation Centre for entrepreneurs and growing companies in the science and technology sector in the Southwest. Managed by Oxford Innovation and based on the UWE Bristol campus, Future Space offers flexible office space, shared and dedicated laboratories, workshops and co-working facilities designed specifically for high-tech, science-based entrepreneurs and innovators. 

Oxford Innovation Space operates a network of innovation centres that provide flexible workspace including offices and workshop facilities and business support services to companies throughout the UK.  Our clients are start-ups, high growth SMEs, investors and also public sector organisations that contract with us to deliver innovation centres and programmes to business. 

This role would be a great first step towards a career in laboratory management. Where required we are committed to on-the-job training, and we expect the successful person to grow into this role. Coupled with this, is the opportunity for exposure to amazing companies commercialising cutting edge research.

Essential experience:

  • Good qualifications or relevant experience in a life science subject area - Biology, Biochemistry, Life/Medical Sciences.
  • Practical Laboratory experience essential (can demonstrate at least 1 year of experience working within a lab). Experience of working within a Containment 2 laboratory is desirable but not essential.
  • Assisting with the preparation of risk assessments and knowledge of the associated regulations (COSHH and biological safety- desirable).
  • Desirable but not essential - First Aid at work certificate, COSHH qualifications or training, Training/Experience on how to handle Biological/Chemical Spills, handling Liquid Nitrogen, understanding of Pressure Systems Regulations and Biosafety. Full on the job training will be given.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • A good team worker with the ability to organise others and ensure adherence to core processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
