This role has come about due to a company restructure creating an additional need for an Electrical Instrumentation Engineer.

Role Purpose

To be a subject matter expert and provide clear technical support for all PLC and control systems equipment across the Paper Business operations. Implement the strategy to maintain and improve this infrastructure, including capital proposals working with the team leaders. Mentors and trains other electrical staff to develop a wider understanding of said systems. Works closely with control system OEM’s to ensure continued support and obsolescence is understood and managed. Works with Engineering Leaders, sharing resource where required to get key tasks completed.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to drive downtime down and ensure repeated breakdowns on PLC and control systems are eliminated, and plant is effectively maintained for optimum plant performance.
  • Carry’s out Root Cause Investigations (RCI) with teams across site on Plant performance effected by PLC and Control systems
  • Identifies and specifies specialist resources and works with other Engineering leaders to utilise these resources
  • Helps to train all electrical staff in control systems
  • Responsible for spares requirements and for areas of accountability, in conjunction with Purchasing & Stores.
  • Management of compliance with maintenance and operational legislative requirements and Company policies and procedures.
  • Delegate tasks to meet maintenance schedule and satisfy employer needs
  • Provides supervision of contractors under departments control
  • Perform administrative tasks as required
  • Drafts and interprets technical specifications in order to determine causes of plant problems, work requirements, spares and labour.
  • Communicates with external technical specialists as required.
  • Reports effectively on breakdowns and gives resolution to the departmental leaders, including results of RCI’s
  • Analyses drawings, data measurements during fault finding Updated June 23 to find root cause of problems on plant and knows where to seek advice and information.
  • Routinely handles complex maintenance issues for an area of accountability.
  • Solves non-routine engineering and process problems that require investigation and analysis via RCI’s.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/D in a relevant Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3 years relevant experience in Engineering role
