Housing Assistant – Part-Time – 12-month FTC

Birmingham

Part-Time - 17.5 hours per week

Pro rata salary - £10,573.08

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our reputable client who are seeking a Housing Assistant to join their team on a part-time basis based at their site in Birmingham. This is initially a 12-month fixed term contract, working 17.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate will have a prior career history in the housing sector, with knowledge of management policies and procedures, anti-social behaviour and allocation processes.

Within this role, the Housing Assistant will be required to work closely with the housing team to deliver a high standard of customer service to all service users by carrying out a full range of Housing Management functions.

Key Duties:

  • To ensure high quality service delivery and accurate recording of data in all areas of work, working closely with the Housing Services Manager to provide a friendly point of contact with the association’s residents.
  • Rent and service charge setting.
  • Rent collection.
  • Rent monitoring.
  • Rent arrears performance and monitoring.
  • Processing Housing Benefit claims
  • Selection and allocation process
  • Providing support and guidance to residents
  • Collecting former tenant arrears
  • Housing management
  • Voids and lettings management
  • Recording, dealing with and monitoring anti-social behaviour complaints.
  • Monitor progress of maintenance requests
  • Respond to complaints received within the permitted timescales.
  • To establish and maintain effective external relations with a range of statutory and voluntary agencies, particularly the local authority Housing Benefit Department.
  • To ensure residents are aware of and adhere to health and safety and security requirements of the building together with other terms of their licence/tenancy agreement - dealing promptly with any issues which may arise.
  • To maximise the income of residents and tenants by ensuring claims for applicable benefits are submitted on time, to increase residents and tenant’s ability to pay and reducing arrears.
  • To monitor any payment plan/rent agreements that have been agreed. Liaising with Housing benefits to ensure the residents and tenants account is “active” and the resident/tenant is aware of their responsibility to provide any additional information required, thereby keeping arrears to a minimum.
  • To identify cases where Court proceedings need to be initiated and prepare appropriate documentation. To administer court cases by updating our IT system and sending appropriate letters to residents/tenants. To attend Court Hearings as and when required.
  • To prepare cases for eviction for authorisation by the Housing Services Manager.
  • To complete Eviction Reports, providing detailed chronologies of arrears actions taken in line with policy and procedure.
  • To carry out any other duties not detailed in this Job Description, but in line with the overall purpose of the role, as directed by your line manager.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of housing management policies and procedures, including the allocations process, repairs, transfers, mutual exchanges, anti-social behaviours, KPIs.
  • Understanding of and commitment to customer care.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equality and diversity.
  • Knowledge of welfare reform and the impact to a housing provider and its residents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, straightforward manner.
  • IT literate with knowledge of MS Office packages
  • Experience of income collection including court representation
