Job description

The aim is to enable adults in receipt of care and support to be in control of their own support at home. We support people who wish to use self-directed care but who do not want to take on all the responsibility of being an employer. We provide a personalised, user-directed home care service.

The role will provide personal care, for people in receipt of personal budgets including continuing care budgets, and for people who pay for their own services. The tasks undertaken will vary according to the needs and preferences of the user but can include help both in and outside the person’s home, with daily activity such as washing, eating, taking exercise, taking medicine, travelling, working, looking after pets.

The service is registered for 'Personal Care’ with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

  • To maintain a professional self-motivated, determined and flexible approach at all times.
  • To provide personal care to disabled people with a wide range of impairments and actively listen to service users in order to promote and support their independent living.
  • To assist service users with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing and the toilet where necessary.
  • To help service users with mobility problems, including the help and use of independent living aids and equipment.
  • To help and share in daily activities, hobbies and recreation together in order to promote and improve general wellbeing.
  • To make and change beds, tidy rooms, other light cleaning and domestic chores where necessary to maintain a comfortable home environment.
  • To assist service users when required to communicate with professionals and utility companies, provide support managing letters and other correspondence.
  • To assist service users when required to plan shopping for meals and assist with shopping/carrying bags or accessing online shopping.
  • To set tables, serve basic meals and feed service users who may require help and wash up, tidy and clean away where necessary.
  • To assist service users to plan, schedule and maintain appointments, which may include assistance to attend appointments.
  • To assist with collection of medication if required.
  • To work only within the companies regulations regarding the handling of service users’ finances, ensuring accurate documentation and receipting of any transactions.
  • To update the database accordingly and maintain accurate, concise, up-to-date and timely records of the service user’s care diary and return all relevant paperwork to the company where necessary.
  • To be familiar with Health and Safety Policy and to promote safe working practices. To ensure full compliance with infection control procedures following company policy.
  • To report and record any accident or incident which may occur - no matter how minor - whether to the service user or carer.
  • To report back to the manager(s) or supervisor(s) on any aspect of the service user’s care which, in the view of the care/support worker, warrants investigation or urgent action.
  • To report immediately to management any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of service users, maintaining the service user’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
