As the Health and Safety Manager, you will take ownership of the school’s compliance with respect to Health & Safety legislation, risk management, security, environmental sustainability and transport and will collaborate with the Site Manager on the planning and delivery of projects.

The Health & Safety Manager will have expertise in health and safety legislation and compliance, risk management and managing projects, dealing with contractors and balancing budgets and will also demonstrate an active interest in promoting environmentally sustainable practices. An excellent communicator, the Health & Safety Manager will be approachable and open, keen to work collaboratively with colleagues in the operations and other departments and will be skilled at communicating effectively, efficiently and politely with all key stakeholders.

PLEASE NOTE: Thenormal working hours are 37.5 hours per week, to be negotiated with the Director of Operations in response to the needs of the team and may be flexible depending on projects and resource requirements. You may be required to occasional work evenings and Saturdays for special events.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Relevant experience in Health & Safety, Risk Management, Facilities and/or Estates Management
  • Ability to understand and interpret legislation and statutory requirements
  • Interest and experience in energy conservation and sustainability
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent qualifications in Health and Safety
  • Excellent hands-on practical skills and experience in buildings maintenance, e.g. mechanical, carpentry, electrical, etc.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Understanding of financial management and budgetary controls and experience of managing large budgets
  • A pro-active, hands-on worker with high levels of initiative and ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to foster good relations and promote the department with staff and pupils and the wider school community
  • High level of numeracy, accuracy and eye for detail
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to work flexibly, as and when required
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritising and taking responsibility for meeting agreed targets
  • Excellent IT skills (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Full and clean driving licence
  • A commitment to the pastoral care, safeguarding and respect for children

Desirable

  • Qualified to HND Level
  • MIDAS Minibus Driving Qualification
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Experience in the education sector
