Pure are delighted to be partnering with one of the regions leading Manufacturers, who are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Business Partner on a permanent basis.

The focus of yourself, and the teams function is to safeguard the safety, health and wellbeing of employees, contractors and visitors, through growing capability engaging and motivating people who can create a difference for the future. The H&S Business Partner role is to contribute to the strategic priorities of the department which align and support the strategic plans of the business. The role supports the building of organisational capability, focused on H&S performance, identifying areas of key risk, gap analysis, assisting with pragmatic and flexible solutions and ensuring legal compliance through advice.

The key responsibilities of this position include;
  • In conjunction with the Head of Health & Safety and other team members, contribute to the development and execution of a sustainable and proactive strategy which provides a vehicle for the creation of a positive culture throughout the business
  • Build trusted and respected relationships, understand business goals and challenges to effectively coach, mentor and support line management in terms of a cultural change to H&S requirements.
  • Identify, develop and implement H&S focused solutions which meet the needs of the business
  • Support sites and leadership teams in liaising with external bodies as required, helping to maintain an ethical, professional and competent perception of the business and acting as an ambassador externally and within the organisation
  • Provide competent advice, and support to leadership teams, enabling them to meet company objectives for H&S with continuous improvement in performance and ongoing legal compliance as the minimum acceptable standards.
  • Work in partnership with functional leaders to ensure creation and execution of ‘best practice’ standards and tactical plans for H&S within each function, to support delivery of H&S objectives and standards throughout operations.
  • Participate in the accident and incident investigation and management process, helping minimise their impact on people and the business, mitigating liability risk and ensuring prevention of recurrence thorough root cause analysis and sharing of learning throughout operations.
  • Complete audit, monitoring, performance management and reporting activities as required, helping to ensure company standards are being complied with and objectives effectively met.
  • Establish and enhance processes that ensure H&S systems, policies, procedures and other documentation are legally compliant, compatible with company values and communicated effectively within the whole business.
  • Build and develop line management capability.
  • Develop working relationships/networking with H&S professionals and external businesses, identifying and utilising opportunities to benchmark policies and procedures, where possible.
  • Undertake projects or research activities that might support legal compliance or strategic priorities.
  • Manage employee personal injury claim case files.
  • Share best practice across the H&S team
  • Demonstrate the highest personal H&S standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively.

The ideal applicant for this position will have the following essential skills, experience, qualifications, and behaviours;
  • Extensive generalist H&S experience in progressively senior roles
  • Able to think strategically and deliver operationally
  • Educated to degree level and/or NEBOSH Diploma qualified
  • Extensive commercial H&S experience; able to translate commercial goals into HR deliverables
  • Experience with facilitating meetings and internal training/workshops
  • Experience working in a site/operational based role
  • Robust, resilient and diplomatic with the confidence to deal with demanding and senior leaders.
  • Strong influencing skills – sell conceptually, challenge assertively whilst maintaining constructive interpersonal impact.
  • Able to motivate others, drive change and deliver results through others.
  • Excellent coaching skills.
  • Ability to understand business strategies and goals and define HR solutions which support the achievement of them.
  • Strong relationship management – principled yet pragmatic.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a dispersed team
  • Strong ‘presence’ and high energy, able to demonstrate business and personal maturity.
  • Present a professional and credible image for self and the department.
  • Assured and flexible with a “can do” and results oriented attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Highly collaborative and a real team player.

It would also be advantageous if you were an IOSH Member and trained in delivering Safety Cultural Change.

This is a full time, permanent position working Monday-Friday covering a 40hr week. There is some flexibility in the working hours ie 07:30-16:00pm / 08:00-16:30pm etc. This position pays a competitive salary and comes with a range of excellent benefits.
