My client

My client is a leading player in the commercial construction sector, specialising within commercial, Education and other sectors. With a track record of delivering exceptional results for their clients, we are dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in everything we do.

Responsibilities:

A principal designer is appointed by the client to take charge during the pre-construction phase of a project. Their role is crucial in managing health and safety, especially for projects involving more than one contractor.

  • Planning and Coordination: Principal designers plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate health and safety during the pre-construction phase. They consider relevant information, such as existing health and safety files, that might impact design work before and after construction begins.
  • Client Assistance: They assist the client in gathering pre-construction information and provide necessary details to designers and contractors for their duties.
  • Risk Elimination: Principal designers collaborate with other designers to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks for everyone affected by the work. If elimination isn’t possible, they take steps to reduce or control those risks.
  • Communication and Cooperation: They ensure that all parties involved in the pre-construction phase communicate and cooperate, coordinating their work as needed.
  • Liaison with Principal Contractor: Principal designers liaise with the principal contractor, keeping them informed of any risks that need control during the construction phase.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide ongoing support and guidance to foster their professional development.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer or a similar role in the commercial construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of design principles, construction methods, and building regulations.
  • Strong proficiency in design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
