Citadel Source are delighted to be working on an exclusive basis with a leading, listed client, based in Bristol to recruit a Head of Payroll to be based in the Bristol office, reporting into the UK Finance Director.

About you

The ideal candidate will be a person who has a passion for payroll and is looking to progress their payroll career whilst also having the ability to successfully lead, manage and influence a large team of 20+ payroll professionals whilst driving performance, providing opportunities for development and acting as a mentor. The successful candidate must have extensive payroll knowledge with experience of complex problem solving, a proven track record of communicating and ability to effectively work across internal teams supporting the payroll strategy.

The role

This is a hugely exciting role for a senior payroll professional, that rarely come up across the South West to truly lead and focus on improving an already sizeable and high performing payroll team. This role will be overseeing a complex business with both monthly and weekly payrolls that has over 15,000 employees and leads a large team of over 20 individuals. The role will also oversee a period of significant change as the business looks to install a new payroll system that better integrates with the modern finance system and will allow the business to build more robust controls and processes improving the delivery of payroll and the ongoing payroll strategy.

As the Head of Payroll your role will include but not be limited to:

  • Business partner with senior leadership team of the business entities
  • Oversee the accurate and timely end to end payroll process covering a significant number of both monthly and weekly payrolls ensuring compliance to the companies statutory and contractual responsibilities and adhering to the embedded payroll controls framework.
  • Lead weekly and monthly team meetings, looking at payroll performance, cascading information and offering support using knowledge of payroll best practice, ensuring standard process and practices are maintained.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance and other teams to ensure seamless integration of payroll processes with other business functions.
  • Manage payroll KPI’s, analysing trends and using root cause analysis to identity opportunities for continuous improvements and enhancements to payroll operations and efficiency.
  • Support the bi-annual audit with the external auditors providing data in a timely fashion through the agreed process.
  • Be responsible for the GDPR compliance of the payroll team. Document, where necessary any payroll data breaches, analyse root cause, close any gaps and record any actions required by the team
  • Manage the payroll strategy, vision and standardisation processes aligning the Managers team strategy with the overall payroll vision.
