A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Land to join our North Yorkshire regional land team based at our head office in Wetherby. If you have proven experience as a Land Manager or Senior Land Manager for a new homes’ developer previously and are keen to progress your career, this could be the ideal role for you.

The Role

Joining our team as Head of Land, you will be responsible for leading, developing, implementing and delivering the regions land acquisition strategy in order to meet the regional business plan and future growth requirements.

Key duties and requirements

You will also be responsible for but not limited to;

  • Establishing and leading the delivery of the regional land supply strategy, working closely with the Regional Managing Director and Regional Board in sourcing and securing land across the North Yorkshire area for the immediate, short and medium term.
  • Actively leading the regional land team to prepare and present comprehensive information packs in relation to land purchases.
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with key landowners, agents and land promoters across the region to ensure the land team are up to date with current market opportunities and trends.
  • Providing reports to the Regional Managing Director on the progress of identifying new land opportunities and undertaking risk assessments of land supply activity.
  • Negotiating and formulating offers to pursue land opportunities in-line with the regions land requirements.
  • Actively leading the regional land team to prepare and present AIP submissions for review.
  • Ensuring that all regional responsibilities in relation to the land acquisition process are effectively managed, reported and delivered in alignment with policies and procedures.
  • Providing active support to the planning team to deliver planning approvals.
  • Developing and maintaining a sound knowledge of the planning system and working closely with the technical teams and external consultants.
  • Ensuring the regional land department maintain a high profile with external property contacts, working relationships with local authorities, local agents, land owners and other developers, within the regions operating area.
  • Involvement in agreeing and delivering site start programmes.
  • Developing close working relationships with internal departments including Technical and Sales.
  • Responsibility for the disposal of on-site affordable housing to registered providers, ensuring that best value is obtained.

Who are we looking for?

As our Head of Land, you will hold either a relevant qualification or extensive experience within land acquisition, procurement and management.

Excellent relationship building skills are essential for this role along with the knowledge of all elements of the land acquisition process.

You must also be able to demonstrate a strong network of contacts within the North Yorkshire region along with the ability to source land whilst also producing and presenting land offers, negotiating the best possible terms.

You will also possess;

  • An extensive understanding of the legal and planning frameworks associated with land acquisition and development procurement.
  • Extensive Technical and legal knowledge along with Financial/Commercial awareness.
  • Broad awareness of codes of practice that impact on land acquisition and planning matters e.g. Planning Policy, Systems and Frameworks, both locally and regionally, land purchase and disposal legal models, structures and mechanisms.
