The Company
Our client is an exciting food innovator, producing sustainable and healthy meat alternatives, looking to take their technology driven business to the next stage of industrialisation and into volume production.

The Role
This food technology start-up business, is looking for an experienced Head of Fermentation to join the senior leadership team, playing a crucial role in scaling the business capabilities;

  • You will be responsible for overseeing the R&D, scale up and product launch, with a particular focus on increasing capacity through robust scale up
  • You will play a key role in scaling both the product and manufacturing capabilities of this patent-pending technology
  • As the key technical lead you will oversee commercial production scale up, and manage innovation across multiple teams
  • You will establish strategic technical partnerships, develop contract manufacturing partners, and also support and liaise with existing R&D partners
  • You will play a key role in the implementation of programmes for food safety and quality
  • You will be involved in the selection, construction and scale-up of a state of the art manufacturing facility
  • Your experience will allow you to plan and deliver the technical aspects of the business plan, working directly with the CEO

The Candidate

  • You will have 5 years plus experience within fermentation and microbiology
  • Experience scaling up bioprocesses to large volumes (from 200 Litre bioreactor upwards)
  • You will hold a relevant Degree, MSc or PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food Technology or similar
  • Possess team leadership experience and a track record of managing scientists or technical R&D staff
  • You will hold a strong commercial understanding of scaling up and launching new products, ideally within the food industry, as well as exposure to setting up and supervising a manufacturing facility
  • The drive to work in a fast-paced start up, with motivation to grow the business and be a key part of its future success
  • A passion for food, in particular the plant-based industry and sustainability would be highly advantageous
