Job Description:

The Met Office is going through an overhaul of our Health and Safety practices, policies, procedures and collective approach across the organisation to the management of Health and Safety. Our health and safety performance is strong but there are improvements to be made to the management controls and integrate H&S into everyone’s job within the Met Office. We have a maturing improvement and delivery plan. In order to ensure this is embedded into the Met Office we are seeking an inspiring Health and Safety leader is has a track record of delivering changes to Health and Safety management controls and particularly culture across an organisation >500 people.

We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate they have delivered a real step change in H&S improvements across organisations and has done this whilst understanding how to be agile in delivering, adapting approach to the organisations values and style. It's important the person is an inspiring leader and can influence peers, Executives but also be front and centre of rolling out key changes to all line managers.

You will report to the Director of Services, but you will have unfettered access to the Met Office, Accounting Officer/Chief Executive.

A member of the senior leadership team, responsible for the provision of assurance to Met Office Executive Board and Board. You will ensure that all processes and procedures in place for the effective delivery and management of the Health and Safety Risks are identified and mitigated to an appropriate level and they will ensure a sustainable cross organisational model to maintain a high level of Health and Safety maturity.

To provide inspiring leadership to ensure that Health and Safety practices and culture are integrated and embedded across the Met Office.
Work with the Director of Services, to devise and delivery the H&S strategy, implementing policy and procedures changes. Report twice yearly to the Met Office Board or sub-committee.

Influence and drive a guiding collation of senior leadership to ensure the Health and Safety improvement plan is delivered with the appropriate change management, seen to be done is a collegiate manner and demonstrates collaborative behaviours
Design and implement an appropriate management and governance structure to ensure strategy, legal obligations and performance managements is appropriate to different levels of the organisations
Improve the H&S Management systems, evolving to a single integrated system aligned with ISO standards and embedding a practice of continuous improvement. Ensuire appropriate reporting and compliance is in place on reporting and audits, risk management and legal compliance
Ensure Met Office delivers its HSES policy commitments, remains legally compliant
Has a track record of working closely with the Trade Unions and also a Health and Safety Consultancy
Be a champion of change through visible leadership, clear and consistent communication and a focus on benefits realisation.
Legally accountable for implementing the Health & Safety Policy and are directly accountable for ensuring the safe working of all people within their reporting line.
Model and promote Met Office values.
Establish and maintain a culture which promotes diversity and inclusion, by seeking to embed good practice to create an inclusive place to work for all, where individuals from all backgrounds are able to flourish.
