Major recruitments are currently looking for a Head Chef in Newport, Shropshire

An enhanced DBSis required.

Grade/Salary: Grade C negotiable subject to experience

Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: Flexible - 16 to 31, with evening meal served at 5pm. Shifts Monday to Thursday finish at 18:30.

Location: Nr Newport, Shropshire, TF10

Job Summary:

You will be expected to describe the role within a few bullet points

  • Meals are selected in advance by schools with one or two options per group of up to 50 children.
  • To lead and organise kitchen staff, including quality control, allocation of duties and work rotas.
  • To plan appropriate menus taking account of client group, dietary requirements, and nutritional value.
  • 3. To manage and monitor all areas of work relating to food hygiene, ensuring Environmental Health standards and regulations are met including:
  • Cleaning of equipment, utensils and surfaces
  • Allergen Management
  • Food storage, temperature control, stock rotation
  • Staff hygiene and personal protective clothing
  • Food preparation and presentation
  • Cleaning of kitchen, food storage and dining areas
  • Waste disposal.
  • Quality control all aspects of catering, cleaning and room presentation
  • Manage all aspects of food hygiene, Environmental Health standards and regulations.
  • Clean the kitchen and dining room to a high standard
  • Control stock, requisition and receive goods.
  • You will be expected to select up to five essential requirements for the role, insert these below
  • You’ll be organised and have a "can do" attitude,
  • Be comfortable working alone and as part of a small team,
  • Hold at least a L2 food hygiene certificate,
  • Be organised and have a strong understanding of food safety procedures
  • Be determined to create a warm and welcoming environment for our young visitors and their teachers.

Additional Notes:

The client mostly welcomes primary school children that visit during the week with their school. Evening meal is at 5pm and their teachers choose meals before their visit.

Because it's the same meal for the whole group and because they're away from home, they tend to choose things they know the children will like, such as:

  • Sausage & mash
  • Pasta bolognese.
  • Fish fingers, wedges and peas
