A fantastic contract to perm role for German and English native speakers in Milton Keynes! The role is an indefinite contract for the right candidate with a view to move on a permanent employment basis in which you will use your fluency in GERMAN in a TECHNICAL TRANSLATION role.


You will translate technical documentation and other texts from German into English, ensuring that the target text reads like original English, using computer-assisted translation tools where directed to optimise the translation process. Lovely team. Lovely job and good long term opportunities!



Title: German Speaking Technical Translator
Reporting to: Translation Manager
Location: Milton Keynes
Work style: Hybrid (3x onsite, 2x work-from-home - subject to operational requirements and effective after the initial onboarding process which is typically 4-6 weeks)
Working hours: 38.5 hours per week (08:30 - 17:00 Mon-Thur and 08:30 - 15:30 Fri, 30 minutes for lunch each day)
Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum (pro-rata + holiday)


Company Details:This is an exciting opportunity for a bi-lingual German and English speaker with excellent copywriting, translation and communication skills to join a leading infrastructure specialist subsidiary company, part of a billion dollar global company associated with aerospace, automotive and industrial engineering.


How your day-to-day looks like:

  • To translate technical documentation (e.g. order & fabrication manuals, operating instructions, computer applications and test reports) accurately into English to a standard fit for global publication.
  • To translate marketing / advertising / corporate material (e.g. exhibition literature, product brochures, press releases and magazines) into English appropriately and with sufficient flair as to accurately reflect the source text and maximise promotion of the clients brand and products worldwide.
  • To translate a wide range of other document types (e.g. contracts, quality standards, training courses and newsletters) to a standard fit for publication.
  • To undertake terminology mining for all translation work as required and participate in the collection of company-specific terminology, consulting appropriate sources and attaining the requisite level of technical knowledge.
  • To revise translations by internal and, where appropriate, external translators to ensure consistent high quality standards.
  • To manage a personal work schedule and work flexibly to ensure that deadlines are met and high quality standards maintained.
  • To participate at all levels of the translation project lifecycle, sharing responsibility for processing enquiries, logging incoming translation work, file management, pricing, scheduling and outsourcing as required.
  • To prepare documents of all types for translation and publication, where necessary using DTP software.
  • To be proactive in developing workflows, procedures, tools and guidelines for maximising efficiency within the team.



Basic qualifications:

  • Fluent in German and English ( native standard - spoken and written )
  • At least 1-2 years work experience in translation
  • Experience and knowledge of CAT tools
  • High level of literacy in IT
  • Strong copywriting skills with very keen eye for detail
  • Team player
  • Ideally with Postgrad qualification in Translation (e.g. MA, Dip. Trans.)
  • Ideally a German graduate
  • Knowledge of engineering, architecture or environmental issues
