Gardener / Horticulturalist with a wide range of experience in gardening and horticulture, an interest in gardening maintenance and the flexibility to work in a seasonal role is required for a well-established private members club based in South West London.

SALARY: £27,352 - £28,000 per annum + Overtime + Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: South West London (SW15)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week,6.00am to 2.30pm,plus some weekend working

The work is seasonal and varies dependent on the time of the year and the weather conditions but inevitably is working outside in a garden environment. Work is task orientated and will revolve around the detailed schedule.

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Gardener / Horticulturalistwith a wide range of experience in gardening and horticulture, an interest in gardening maintenance and the flexibility to work in a seasonal role.

Working as the Gardener / Horticulturalist you will join the Course and Grounds maintenance department. The organisation’s formal gardens are undergoing an improvement programme, and they are looking to recruit someone with the ability to deliver high quality work to assist with this process.

As the Gardener / Horticulturalist you will need to be very motivated and productive, with a range of experience in general gardening management as well as offering basic formal qualifications.

DUTIES

Your duties as Gardener / Horticulturalistwill include:

  • Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, blowing and planting
  • Maintain prorogation unit, 'poly tunnel’ and nursery frames. Watering, weeding and fertilizing duties to maintain and promote health of the plants
  • Lawn maintenance and cultivation - Mowing with pedestrian cylinder or rotary machines / seeding and fertilizer application
  • The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery and plant. For example, hedge trimming, blowing debris and strimming grass areas with line trimmer
  • The work schedule may include group activities or lone working dependent on the task to be completed
  • Be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health & Safety at Work legislation
  • Ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure
  • Keep the work and welfare facilities, tool sheds and staff toilets clean and tidy
  • Be aware of and report any security risks posed within the club
  • Apply chemicals where appropriate and possess or be working toward chemical application licences
  • To undergo training as required
  • Keep the gardens, thoroughfares and highway footpaths clear and free from litter at all times
  • Carry out gritting, salt spreading, snow cleaning, as necessary, including highway footpaths through the club

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in a Gardening / Horticultural position
  • NVQ or City & Guilds level 2 Horticulture (or above)
  • PA1, PA2, PA6a spraying certificates would be desirable, but not essential as training can be provided
