Financial Controller

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly successful and growing group of companies in the healthcare sector.

The successful candidate will be either ACA or ACCA qualified, and with the motivation and ability to assist in managing and developing the financial aspects of the business as it continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and Director of Operations, responsibilities will include:

Internal Reporting

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts for all group companies within two weeks of each month end.
  • Analysis of monthly management accounts against budget.
  • Maintaining rolling profit and loss, cash and balance sheet forecasts for the business.
  • Measuring the financial performance of each business segment against Key Performance Indicators.
  • Providing financial analyses as required by the management team.

Management

  • Overseeing purchase ledger clerk.
  • Working with the business billing team.
  • Overseeing and improving the financial controls within the business.
  • Managing outsourced functions.

Transactions

  • Ensuring that Sage accounts are kept up to date.
  • Work alongside management and billing team to ensure the timely collection of debtors.
  • Maintenance of prepayments and accruals as part of management accounts preparation.
  • Preparation of weekly bank reconciliations.
  • Working alongside management and purchase ledger team to ensure timely settlement of companies’ creditors.
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Cash management.

Compliance

  • Preparation of Sage accounts to Trial Balance level within one month of the year end for submission to the Group’s accountants.
  • Dealing with operational HMRC compliance, including VAT submissions.

External Stakeholder Management

Developing strong relationships with stakeholders to the business, including:

  • banking partners
  • accountants
  • payroll bureau
  • customers
  • suppliers

Skills and Qualifications

Desired attributes

  • Ideally either ACA or ACCA qualified, three years post qualification
  • Knowledge of Sage
  • Knowledge of Partial Exemption for VAT purposes
  • Easy communicator
  • Motivated
  • Sector experience not required
