I am recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the Newport area who is seeking to recruit a qualified Financial Controller to join its team.

The role will initially report into the FD of the organisation, but due to succession planning the role will progress into the FD position within the next couple of years.

As part of the finance team (6 in total), the successful candidate will provide day to day operational management across the Finance function, ensuring that systems and processes are robust and deliver maximum efficiency. Working closely with the senior leadership team to ensure the effective management of financial resources, you will use financial data to help support planning and commercial decisions to ensure the future growth and profitability of the business.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities will include -

  • Lead the Finance Team through building strong working relationships, setting clear and fair expectations ensuring that each person understands their contribution to the business.
  • Produce financial statements including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, 4 weekly management accounts, variance analysis and commentaries.
  • Assist in the production of the annual budget and periodic forecasting.
  • Provide management reporting for decision-making, including project appraisal, evaluation, and post-implementation analysis.
  • Ongoing review of cash flow and production of forecasts.
  • Produce annual statutory accounts in management accounts format.
  • Act as the principal liaison with external auditors and take full ownership of the statutory annual audit.
  • Ensure all tax, PAYE and VAT matters are dealt with in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Manage capital expenditure.
  • Report on company assets and liabilities and maintain balance sheet control accounts & reconciliations to up hold a state of audit readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations.
  • Manage day to day activities of the finance team, including payroll, and oversee the companies’ cash office function.
  • Manage day to day activities of the reception team.
  • Carry out continuous reviews of working accounting practices and processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations and nurture a culture of continuous improvement within finance functions.
  • Stewardship and administration of accounting and payroll systems.

Skills & experience required -

  • Qualified Accountant with minimum 3 years’ post qualified experience.
  • Proven technical ability.
  • Understanding of modern management information systems.
  • Ability to manage, delegate, motivate, monitor and control team activity.
  • Commercial awareness, with an interest in business and an understanding of how an organisation works and manages resources.
  • The ability to explain complex financial information in a clear way.
  • High degree of professionalism and commitment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with colleagues at all levels including non-finance members of staff.
  • Lively and enquiring mind with a logical approach to work, combined with analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

The hours of work are Monday to Friday 9 - 5pm with 30 mins for lunch but these can be flex for the right person,

The role will predominantly be based on site in Newport, but some ad-hoc WFH can be arranged post probation
