Financial Controller - high growth PE backed business.

Harlow - Flexible hybrid model

c£80,000 - £100,000 + Bonus

I have known and worked with this CFO for a decade and a half. He is an instrumental leader, highly intelligent, accomplished and I have only ever had enormously positive feedback from those that work alongside and with him. It is always a pleasure to recruit for him as I can say with the utmost confidence that the successful appointee will embark on an enjoyable and career developmental opportunity.

The CFO has recently been appointed to a new portfolio company for a boutique, UK Private Equity house. The 100+ year old business has been grown by the founding family into a leading player in their market. Following the acquisition, the organisation is entering an exciting new chapter with a strategic plan of growth. The CFO is now seeking an exceptional individual to join him in leading the finance function on a journey of transformation to become a "best in class" operation.

The role will be responsible for ensuring that all the financial data is prepared in a timely and accurate manner, in turn leading to clean and prompt financial and management accounts. To ensure the business is compliant and work with external auditors for statutory financial and tax reporting purposes.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • In partnership with the CFO, responsible for managing and developing the finance team.
  • Responsible for ensuring the smooth and robust delivery of all "business as usual" finance activities, whilst balancing these day-to-day requirements with the transformational program.
  • Responsible for championing and supporting a customer service ethos in the department.
  • Responsible for adopting a pragmatic, risk focussed approach to evaluating and resolving emerging compliance issues.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Day to day management of the Finance and Inventory teams.
  • Supporting the CFO to deliver the vision for the finance function of the future and ensure it is positioned for continued growth.
  • Develop and hone a best-in-class finance team.
  • Ensure all operational finance tasks are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts.
  • Support the financial performance of the business by providing accurate and measurable results to the directors and shareholders.
  • Support the Head of FP&A and work collaboratively to produce outlooks, results etc.
  • Complete timely and accurate monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Be the key point of contact with the auditors.
  • Deliver a quick and clean annual audit process.
  • Ensure all financial and tax filings are completed well in advance of the deadline using third party advisors where appropriate.
  • Ownership of VAT returns for all companies in the group.
  • Stock counts, day to day stock reconciliation and overall inventory accuracy in terms of count and value.
  • Run all aspects of treasury, ensuring invoice discounting facility is managed and reconciled, covenants are reported and a weekly cashflow report is produced for the Board.
  • Ensure the expenses policy is up to date and adhered to, along with mileage records and any HMRC documentation is filed appropriately.

Applicants will be fully qualified (ideally ACA from a Big4 audit background) with a CV that will easily demonstrate team leadership/management. You will have moved into industry and have experience of tax, treasury and financial reporting. Experience of working with multiple stock locations would be a distinct advantage to your application, as would knowledge of NetSuite as an operating system.

You will thrive in a fast-paced organisation, taking control of your own workload and managing competing priorities. You will have a passion for detail and accuracy, aligned to strong commercial acumen and the ability to use your own initiative with the confidence to challenge and present your point of view concisely and effectively.

What IS a prerequisite, is your attitude and aptitude in taking a proactive and autonomous approach to your work and the desire to have a tangible impact on the business itself. Your commitment to delivery, coupled with a focussed desire to succeed within a demanding, exciting growth business, will provide an enviable platform for the progression and development of your career.
