Job Title: Estimator

Position Overview: They are seeking a skilled and experienced Estimator to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in accurately estimating the costs of projects, from initial conception through to completion. Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the Estimator will utilize their expertise in groundworks and civil engineering to analyze project requirements, evaluate costs, and prepare comprehensive estimates that align with the company's standards of excellence.

Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand project requirements thoroughly.
  2. Conduct site visits and liaise with project stakeholders to gather necessary information for accurate cost estimation.
  3. Collaborate with the engineering and project management teams to develop cost-effective solutions that meet project objectives.
  4. Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses.
  5. Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
  6. Prepare comprehensive and well-organized tender packages for submission to clients.
  7. Participate in tender negotiations and presentations, providing clarification on cost estimates as required.
  8. Support project managers with ongoing cost tracking, analysis, and reporting throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  2. Proven experience as an Estimator within the groundworks and civil engineering industry.
  3. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques.
  4. Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
  6. Effective communication and negotiation abilities, both verbal and written.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  8. Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards.

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  2. Proven experience as an Estimator within the groundworks and civil engineering industry.
  3. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques.
  4. Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, CostX).
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
  6. Effective communication and negotiation abilities, both verbal and written.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  8. Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  9. Professional certification (e.g., Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is desirable but not essential.
