Job Title: Estates Craftsperson - Painter/Decorator

Location: Swansea

Job Type: Temporary

Duration of booking: Expected to be for a minimum 3-month duration.

Hourly Pay Rates:

(Mon-Fri 6am to 8pm) - £12.82 - 13.50 paye inclusive of holiday

(Mon-Fri 8pm to 6am/Sat) - £16.32 - £17.50 paye inclusive of holiday

(Sun/BH) - £20.08 - £21.50 paye inclusive of holiday

Working Days and Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Mon-Fri (Overtime may be required by mutual agreement to ensure the needs of the service are satisfied)

Remote working option Info: Not specified (onsite 5 days per week)

Travelling for work purposes: Yes, you must be willing to travel to other sites if required.

Driving Licence Required: Yes - You must possess a full UK driving licence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret and work from all instructions and drawings and specifications appropriate to the painting and decorating trade without supervision.
  • Use and erect stepladders, ladders, cradles, zip ups, mechanical aerial platforms, and scaffolding.
  • Undertake cleaning of walls and surfaces in preparation for painting and decorating and undertake a deep cleaning regime to comply with hygiene requirements.
  • Carry out the removal/refitting of wall fixings and fittings, furniture, and accessories.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance assistants, building labourers and apprentices in the undertaking of their duties.
  • Undertake glazing duties as necessary.
  • Assist supervisors / estates officers, in the critical analysis of planned and unplanned maintenance procedures and working methods.
  • Communicate efficiently between maintenance staff, contractors, and healthcare staff to ensure understanding in respect of technical issues and to gain co-operation and enhance working relationships.
  • Carry out the provision of professional technical guidance, advice, and support in respect of technical and operational issues to LHB staff and/or patients as appropriate.
  • Be prepared to work in a multi skilled environment i.e., where you will be required to undertake a range of duties associated with alternative building and engineering trades and assist other trades to include drainage external and internal finishes and assisting with the safe entry and exit from the sites. This will include but not restricted to traffic management, snow and ice clearing etc.
  • Work in close liaison with Estates Officers, supervisors and chargehands to maximise the efficiency of the service through collaborative working practices.
  • On completion of work ensure that the work area is maintained in a safe secure and tidy manner.
  • Undertake continuing personal and technical development to maintain the competency requirements of the post.
  • Assist other estates staff as required.
  • Complete works instruction dockets and time sheets as directed.
  • Undertake overtime by mutual agreement and work by mutual agreement to ensure the needs of the service are satisfied.
  • To always carry required communication devices to enable immediate response to work requests.
  • Identify and report to the line manager any item of plant or equipment that requires replacement or repair.
  • Prior to use of any tools, machinery or equipment visually inspect the item, carry out any pre use checks and report all defects to their supervisor.
  • Be prepared to undertake duties as a lone worker throughout the LHB.
  • Be required to work in mental health establishments and receive appropriate violence and aggression training.
  • Respect and adhere to policies including patient confidentiality.
  • Be prepared to work in a multi skilled environment i.e. Carry out basic work of other trades and help other trades.
  • Provide general non-clinical advice or information to staff, patients, carers or relatives and visitors.
  • Drive/operate plant, machinery and vehicles as directed.
  • Undertake duties in a safe manner and working within departmental Health & Safety policies and procedures, ensuring that working practices comply in both spirit and practice.
  • Advise colleagues, contractors, and other health care staff on operation of any restrictions on plant and services as necessary.
  • Liaise with supervisors’ colleagues and stores persons in the adequate provision of materials for the work in hand.
  • Participate in the training, technical advice and support of peer groups, trainees and to pass on knowledge relating to their sphere of work.
  • Be understanding of the relationship of other craftsperson’s work to his/her own trade.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of workshop safety practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rota as and when required by the Health Board to ensure that emergency repairs/situations are attended to by mutual agreement.
  • Be self-determined and motivated, representing the estates department in the absence of an Estates Officer.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working as a Maintenance Craftsperson, Painter/Decorator/equivalent.
  • Have completed a structured training programme / apprenticeship in painting/decorating.
  • Hold a BTEC/HNC Level in Building Services OR have equivalent relevant experience plus City & Guilds Part II / NVQ Level III OR equivalent relevant experience.
  • Must possess a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel to other sites if required.
  • Experience at working on a wide range of building services.
  • Appropriate working experience/training including the safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the safe use and maintenance of the hand tools and equipment used in undertaking their duties and to undertake minor repair works
  • Health and Safety at Work Act and construction knowledge
  • Good working knowledge of all relevant statutory regulations, bye laws, policies and procedures, Codes of Practice, HTM’s etc.
  • Knowledge of building services found within a large NHS acute hospital/Healthcare environment (desirable)
  • Be prepared to work in hazardous areas, having taken all necessary safety measure to prevent damage, avoid injury and prevent damage to plant and equipment
